SPRING GATHERING – MARCH 2023
Our Spring Gathering of the Tower Hamlets Food Growers took place at Bromley By Bow Community Centre on March 16th. The theme of the gathering was “gardening for wellbeing”. As well as lots of interesting stalls and amazing workshops throughout the day, we also launched our Soil Sisters Toolkit!
Soil Sisters is a Wen Project that has been running weekly gardening sessions at women’s refuges around East London. The toolkit shows some of this work through the seasons.
It also has ideas and session plans for anyone wanting to begin gardening in this way. There is feedback from Women we gardened with who benefitted from enjoying nature and food growing at a crisis point in their lives.
Over a hundred people joined us at various points of the day, it was great to see so many of you at the gathering, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at the next one in the Summer.
Here we share some of the highlights from the day.
LAUNCHING THE SOIL SISTERS TOOLKIT
We were honoured to have one of the women from one of the refuges give a moving personal explanation of how Soil Sisters was for her. This was followed by the Soil Sisters team – Shaheda, Bernadette and Maria talking about the toolkit. You can see the toolkit here.
WORKSHOPS
During the day there were a number of workshops – including mandala stone painting as well as a workshop on setting up and looking after a wormery.
LUNCH
We sat together and enjoyed a delicious lunch.
