Wen Statement – against the far-right violence and terror marches in UK

We at Wen are thinking of those who are traumatised by the organised racist and Islamophobic violence this week. The violence across the UK over the last few days has been driven by division and hatred fuelled by misinformation and disinformation, and it is painfully upsetting to see our communities targeted like this. These scenes should be unimaginable in 2024.

Such actions are reprehensible and have no place in our society and must be unequivocally condemned. This violent racism has been orchestrated over years of normalised racism and Islamophobia, enabled by many Politicians, many public figures and much of legacy British Media and what is unfolding is a failure of our system which must be redesigned.

We at Wen demand an end to: blaming migrants, Muslims and People of Colour to distract from decades of failed political choices; equating peaceful protests with rioters performing Nazi salutes; and to broadcasting far right propaganda.

We must all stand in solidarity against this violence. Communities have always come together, resisted and supported each other, and will continue to do so. Wen will continue to challenge the harmful impacts of misogyny, Islamophobia and racism, speaking out against discrimination, and actively working towards a future where everyone is treated with fairness and compassion.
