PERIOD EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Did you know that Tampax and Lil Lets give free menstrual education in schools? Wen thinks it’s pretty dodgy that corporations that profit from disposable menstrual products are in charge of educating young people about their menstrual health. Often boys are left out of the discussion and details of correct disposal and reusable alternatives are left out.

ENVIRONMENSTRUAL WORKSHOPS

Which is where our Environmenstrual workshops come in to play!   We explore the pros and cons of disposable and reusable menstrual products including the health and environmental impacts.  This enables participants to make an informed choice of which menstrual products to use. These workshops are ideal for schools, universities and community groups.

ATTENDEES WILL:

  • Recognise the environmental and health impacts of conventional menstrual products.
  • Learn about menstrual waste and appropriate disposal
  • Learn about both sides of the disposables versus reusables argument and justify a personal opinion.
  • Explore ways to increase access to period products that are healthy, affordable, and plastic-free
  • Gain an improved understanding of issues around menstruation, health and environment
  • Begin to make informed choices around menstrual well being and environmental values
  • Learn about menstrual product options and how to access them
  • Develop a #PeriodProud attitude to break the period taboo

TRAIN TO BE AN ENVIRONMENSTRUAL AMBASSADOR

Thanks to Hubbub and Waitrose & Partners Plastic Fund, Wen and City to Sea have a fully-fledged teacher and ambassador training program to reach schools and community groups all across England.

Wen has developed educational modules based on the Environmenstrual Workshop Programme and trained  50 ambassadors in early 2020 to roll out this model across the UK.

Wen is seeking financial sponsorship to enable us to train more Environmenstrual Ambassadors, as there is quite the demand for this training! If your company or organisation would be interested in this opportunity, please email natasha@wen.org.uk.

Environmenstrual Ambassador

WHO DO WE TRAIN?

Individuals who would like to get the word out in their communities about Environmenstrual and #Plasticfreeperiods. You don’t need to have an environmental science degree to be an Environmenstrual Ambassador! This is a volunteer opportunity with Wen.

WHAT’S COVERED?

The training programme equips Environmenstrual Ambassadors with the tools necessary to enable young people and adults to have access to all the information they need to make informed choices about which menstrual products to use. The training covers workshop facilitation skills and the following topics:

  1. Menstrual product options – reusable & disposable
  2. Menstrual cycle and female anatomy
  3. Period poverty and period taboo
  4. Environmental and health impacts of products
  5. Disposal issues
  6. Environmenstrual Week of Action – period activism

HOW DO TRAINING SESSIONS HAPPEN?

Our train-the-trainer sessions are conducted in a group of up to 25 participants each and are full day training. The training will give participants time to try out the workshop facilitation process and ask questions.  Once the participant has completed the training, they will be Wen accredited and need to commit to delivering 2-3 Environmenstrual workshops over a 9 month period. Workshops can be 50 minutes to 1.5 hours in length.
