GREEN BABY

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that chemicals in food and packaging, cleaning products, furniture and cosmetics can be harmful to babies and children? Wen will be launching a series of guides on baby toiletries, cleaning products, toys, nappies and furniture and paint plus a programme of workshops for expectant parents, parents and health professionals.

TOP TIPS TO REDUCE EXPOSURE TO EVERYDAY HARMFUL CHEMICALS

  1. Eat healthy. Buy fresh, unpackaged food, if possible organically grown. Store your food in glass or porcelain containers. Hazardous chemicals from plastic containers can leach into your food.

  2. Minimise your contact with harmful chemicals: avoid spray cans, hair dye, paints or varnishes.

  3. Use eco-friendly cleaning products, and use them economically and in diluted amounts.

  4. Ventilate your home or office for five to ten minutes several times a day and clean floors regularly. This eliminates polluted dust and air from indoors.

  5. Avoid scented candles, room sprays and toilet blocks, as they pollute the air in your home.
