Have you ever been curious about trying a reusable pad but haven’t known where to start? Want to learn how to make your own reusable cloth pads? Join us online for our Environmenstrual workshop!

In this relaxed and informal workshop, we’ll make our own reusable menstrual pad from materials you have around the house or that are easily obtained, with either hand stitching or using a sewing machine (if you have one). Making your own menstrual pads is one of the cheapest and simplest ways to start your plastic free period journey. Group size limited to 15 people to allow lots of questions and chit chat.

Materials you will need:

      1. Cotton fabric for the outer layer, which will lie next to your skin. You could upcycle things such as a cotton shirt, t-shirt, bed linen or similar.
      2. Cotton terry cloth or flannel- for absorbent layers. This could be an upcycled towel or flannel clothing
      3. Needle and thread
      4. Optional water-resistant layer. Choose one of the following options:
        • Upcycling fleece (like a fleece jumper), an old mattress protector or real nappy cover.
        • PUL fabric, available online and in some specialty fabric shops (a waterproof, breathable polyester fabric)
        • A water-resistant natural fabric that you could try is a tightly woven wool (such as a wool blanket or felted wool), however it will make the pad thick and isn’t a popular option.

5.Optional closure, for pads with wings. Choose one of the following options.

        • Snaps/Poppers
        • Button
        • Velcro
