ST HILDA’S EAST COMMUNITY CENTRE, SHOREDITCH (map)
Fancy making your own vanilla chai sugar body scrub? How about grapefruit moisturiser? Or lemon and eucalyptus deodorant? Join Women’s Environmental Network to learn how to make these gorgeous organic products and more, and find out why it’s so important for your health to really know what you’re putting on your skin…
Every day we are exposed to a toxic soup of harmful chemicals, a potentially lethal cocktail of synthetic compounds that can cause cancers, infertility, genital abnormality, diabetes, heart disease and developmental problems in babies. These dangerous and often unregulated ingredients can be found in our cosmetics, hygiene products, food, furniture, cleaning products, electronics, and almost every other kind of consumer product you can think of. There are dedicated NGOs and campaign groups fighting to keep things like parabens, phthalates and EDCs off the supermarket shelves, but it’s not an easy battle. In the meantime, there are things you can do to keep yourself and your family as safe as possible by minimising your exposure to harmful chemicals.
Join us and learn how to take care of your health in an active way by making your own cosmetics, body care and other household products. Participants will use gorgeous organic ingredients to make healthy alternatives, which they can then take home in environmentally friendly packaging. Expect DIY shampoos, body scrubs, washing up liquid and more, plus a beautifully designed WEN recipe pack to take home and try yourself. Our motto is: if you can’t eat it, don’t rub it on your face!
