As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on an incredible year of progress and action. Thanks to your support, we’ve taken steps towards creating a world where women, communities and the planet thrive.
Through our campaigns, grassroots projects, and collaborative initiatives, we’ve worked tirelessly for gender, health and climate justice. Here’s a look back at what we’ve accomplished this year and a glimpse into our exciting plans for 2025.
Health and the Environment
Environmenstrual Campaign
Our Environmenstrual Campaign continues to challenge the environmental and health impacts of mainstream period products. This year, we hosted the sixth Environmenstrual Week of Action, expanded our coalition to over 60 organisations, and delivered workshops nationwide through our Environmenstrual Ambassadors.
We are continuing to lobby for a Menstrual Health, Dignity, and Sustainability Act and launched our No Laughing Matter briefing during World Continence Week in June.
Menstruation, Empowerment and Sustainability (MENSY)
With EU Erasmus funding, we launched the MENSY Project in January, collaborating with other organisations in seven countries to create training resources on menstruation and sustainability, fostering youth engagement across Europe.
Green Baby Campaign
This year, our Green Baby Campaign continued to advocate for legislation addressing toxic chemicals in household and baby products. We held our second Green Baby Day in June, supported by Weleda UK and the Savitri Trust, bringing this critical issue to a broader audience. We also developed a workshop programme for parents and health professionals which we’ll be rolling out next year.Together, we’re ensuring safer, healthier beginnings for babies and families across the UK. We’re planning to build a Green Baby Coalition to advocate for stronger legislation around toxic chemicals and their environmental and health impacts.
Real Nappies for London
Through our Real Nappies for London project, we championed reusable nappies across 11 boroughs, hosting over 50 outreach events and engaging more families in sustainable practices.
Soil Sisters Project
In East London, our Soil Sisters Project continues to flourish, providing therapeutic horticulture, for mental health and wellbeing, for women in refuges escaping domestic violence. Working alongside Hestia, we nurtured the gardens we co-created, ran year-round wellbeing sessions, and shared our Soil Sisters Toolkit to inspire similar projects nationwide.
Climate – Leading with Justice
Feminist Green New Deal
We’ve continued to lead the way on the Feminist Green New Deal, engaging new audiences and developing partnerships. This year saw the launch of our Reproductive Justice and the Climate Emergency work in collaboration with Birth Companions, culminating in a policy paper and a published article in the British Medical Journal.
Climate Sisters Programme
In Tower Hamlets and Hackney, our three-year Climate Sisters Programme is amplifying women’s voices, in particular racialised and marginalised voices, in climate leadership. We held our first showcase event at The Barbican in July this year to highlight the voices and priorities of marginalised women. We’re creating a feminist leadership model for a fairer, more inclusive climate movement. And we are excited to be taking this programme nationally next year.
Food Justice – Growing Change Locally and Beyond
Just FACT Project
Our Just Food and Climate Transition (Just FACT) project continues to lead efforts in creating a climate-friendly, community-powered food system in Tower Hamlets.
This year we funded 10 community-led food justice projects, empowering grassroots solutions and amplifying diverse voices.
Food Partnership
We strengthened the Tower Hamlets Food Partnership, advancing sustainable food policies and addressing food poverty. We held a series of collaborative workshops leading to new collective areas of work.
Food Lives
Our Food Lives team headed to Helsinki earlier this year, to share the great community-led research that they’ve been doing in Tower Hamlets. They are leading the way in how to do community research in a respectful and approachable way.
Tower Hamlets Community Food Growing Network
We held Seasonal gatherings, community events that bring people together around delicious food and an interest in nature, food growing, mental wellbeing and community.
Limborough Community Food Hub
This year we’ve hosted and organised a wide range of workshops on cooking, gardening and wood working as well as community parties and celebrations.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we celebrate these milestones, we remain committed to tackling the challenges ahead. Together, we’ll continue fighting for justice, equity, and a sustainable future for all. None of this would be possible without your support. Whether you’ve attended events, donated, or shared our mission, you’ve helped create real change.
Here’s to 2025 – a year of action, equity, and hope!
