Seeds have been sent, Champions have started growing!
This year the Wen team has chosen to start the Keep Growing campaign in a slightly different way compared to last year.
We asked ourselves: How can we bring the community together again? How can we help to restore a network that hasn’t gathered together for so long? What can be really meaningful, to help this recovering process we all need at different levels?
Answers were: sharing, caring and supporting each other using the power of green!
Giving the opportunity to people to meet again and be actively part of the community in the safest way possible.
WHEN AND WHERE:
We are happy to announce our first public event of 2021:
Saturday 19th June from 11am till 3pm the garden gate at Limborough Hub E14 7AW will be open to host this amazing event. The garden will be a sharing point where we can exchange plants, meet growers and reconnect with the community.
To make things easier and really have a cooperative result, we asked a few local people to become our Keep Growing Champions.
Champions have agreed to start plants from seeds and grow vegetable seedlings that can be distributed to the community.
We received a lot of interest and offers to help out with the project, so thank you for the great response. We were able to select just a few people for this challenge -and it’s a challenge indeed to start plants from seed and take care of seedlings for the whole community in such a short time.
But let’s not forget that the whole idea of this event is “Sharing and Growing Together”, and so people helping each other is at the heart of this year’s Keep Growing campaign. That’s why we’re asking everybody to share what they can and be engaged on this day.
You can be a Champion and share your extra plants with friends and family. (See below on how to organise your own Sharing Point)
During the day we will provide a friendly and green location, free gardening workshops, and food.
We ask you to come along, bring your extra plants or seeds to swap, if you have any, and take home some free vegetable seedlings for your garden or balcony.
Everybody is welcome!
But we have some health and safety rules:
HOW IT WORKS
Keeping visitors and colleagues safe from Covid-19 is really important to us, so the event will be in 50-minute slots between 11am-3pm with restricted numbers of people. We would appreciate your understanding if you have to wait, as we need to be very careful about numbers. Please make sure you book your ticket on Eventbrite before the day:
We ask that you sign in for Track & Trace purposes and use the hand-sanitising stations upon entry, and to follow the one-way system. We also ask everybody to keep at least a 2-metre distance from people you don’t live with and do not enter the area if you have any symptoms of Covid-19.
Please note that there are no accessibility toilets on site.
MORE SHARING POINTS
What if I have some extra plants but I cannot attend the Event?
We warmly suggest organising your own sharing point!
It can be in front of your house or in a common area where you think people will appreciate taking some free seedlings.
Let us know about your sharing point:
- Take a photo of your seedlings.
- Add the location of your sharing point.
- Share your photo on social media tagging @wen_uk and using the hashtag #KeepGrowing so we can repost it and let everybody know!
Please remember to check your seedlings by the end of the day and collect any leftovers, leaving the area clean!
Looking forward to seeing you there!
