Capital Growth

What we do

Capital Growth is a campaign to create 2,012 new community food growing spaces in London by the end of 2012.  As the Local Lead for Tower Hamlets, Women’s Environmental Network is excited to facilitate a network of food growing spaces in the borough.

Volunteer site visits
WEN volunteers visit Capital Growth spaces in Tower Hamlets and provide each space individual attention and answers to the site’s specific questions.  Capital Growth and WEN support food growing spaces in places as diverse as school yards, derelict spaces on housing estates, or on business office rooftops.  They might be vegetable gardens, herb gardens or urban orchards. If you’re a Capital Growth space in Tower Hamlets and would like to receive a visit,  please contact capitalgrowth(at)wen.org.uk or call the WEN Local Food team on 0207 481 9004.

Networking Events
Tower Hamlets Food Growing Network was launched on 18th November at Tarling East Community Centre. The day began with introductory talks from Capital Growth, Women’s Environmental Network, Tower Hamlets Healthy Borough Programme and Tower Hamlets Homes, followed by workshops on container growing, involving the community, gardening Q & A, and a trip to nearby Winterton House Organic Garden.  We are now running regular seasonal gatherings of the Network, with workshops, talks and stalls offered by Tower Hamlets food growers.
