Peterborough: Nappy Roadshow.

The Cambridgeshire Real Nappy Network will be borrowing the Cambridgeshire Schools Recycling Bus from Cambridgeshire County Council and will be doing a week long roadshow around the County, targeting the five districts of Cambridgeshire.

The Bus will house a colourful array of display boards, promotional and information leaflets and posters. We will also be handing out free stickers and balloons and running a competition to win cloth nappy supplies. Members of the public will be invited to board the Bus for a cup of tea or coffee and view our comprehensive nappy library consisting of over 40 nappy samples. The kids can play 'put the nappy on the dolly' with our beautiful handcrafted dolls cloth nappies. Individuals will also be able to purchase items such as promotional T-shirts, real nappy greetings cards and our beautiful handcrafted dolls cloth nappies!

Devon
Devon Authorities are running a series of Roadshows in each of the 10 Authority areas promoting the use of real nappies. The events are all planned in town centres and will be launched in Real Nappy Week and will have a health professional on board to offer informal advice to residents about the choices available and local suppliers. The roadshows will gather information about existing levels of awareness and offer a free prize draw offering one winner per roadshow with a birth to potty supply of real nappies. Winners will be encouraged to feedback periodically. All specific information is available on the Recycle Devon website www.recycledevon.org.

The Nappy Road Show
There will be a touring nappy road show with the ‘Rethink Rubbish Bus’. Parents can:

  • See nappy demonstrations, a display and get further information about washable nappies.
  • Purchase a reduced price starter pack of washable nappies (or receive a voucher to buy one at one of our outlets)
  • Enter fun competitions (at all the venues) to win star prizes of birth to potty kits of washable nappies.
  • Visit the ‘Rethink Rubbish Bus’ to get more ideas and alternatives to throwing away unwanted rubbish.

We’ll be at the following places:

Lewes District Council have organised an event for Saturday, 3rd April, 10am to 12.30pm at Cliffe Church hall, Cliffe High Street, Lewes. Parents can also enter a competition to win a birth to potty pack of nappies and nappy ‘goody bags’.

Request a nappy information pack and enter a draw. Wealden District Council have publicised for parents to telephone (01892 602 626) for a washable nappy information pack who will then be entered into a draw to win a birth to potty pack of washable nappies.

Nappy Network Loan Schemes There are a number of nappy loan schemes already operating across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex provided by the nappy network and the following new one will be launched during Real Nappy Week.

Baby Gaia (a not for profit eco-shop) will be launching their shop, baby grow swap and nappy loan scheme for parents on a low income. Parents will be able to borrow a complete nappy kit for a minimal charge. There will be fun activities for parents and children, music and snacks at Baby Gaia, Stall 6, The Open market (off London Road), Brighton on Saturday, 3rd April, 12pm to 4.30pm. They will also offer a 5% discount on all new nappies sold during the day.

The following local shops will be offering displays and special promotions during Real Nappy Week:
Great Expectations, 42-44 Lewes Road, Brighton will have a nappy display in their window, in-store demonstrations and 10% discount off cotton nappies until the end of April.

Yummies will be celebrating the re-opening of their shop at 15 Bond Street, Brighton on Saturday, 3rd April. They will be offering a free £25 voucher to spend at Yummies with every birth to potty pack of washable nappies purchased during April.

The Birth and Baby Shop, The Labyrinth, Mark Lane, Eastbourne will be offering a competition to visitors to their shop. The 1st prize will be a nappy starter set – a bucket and mesh, one nappy with waterproof cover, a wet bag and biodegradable liners. The 2nd prize will be a nappy and cover and a roll of liners.

Cotton Bottoms (contact Sarah Fisher, 08707 778 899) will be running ‘Very Important Baby’ days every Thursday throughout 2004. Anyone who goes along in March and April will receive a free canvas bag. All visitors will be entered into a draw to win a birth to potty pack of nappies or a nappy laundry service starter worth £150.
