Real Nappies for London is a new project supported and enabled through funding from the London Recycling Fund, Community Recycling and Economic Development (CRED) Programme,
This project has received a grant of £151 from the London Recycling Fund. The London Recycling Fund is a £50 million fund that aims to help London Boroughs and waste authorities recycle more household waste through improving arrangements for recycling in London. The Fund operates through a joint initiative between the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority (GLA), the Association of London Government (ALG) and London Waste Action.
The Fund was agreed by the Government in March 2002 and has been allocated core funding of £46.95 million over the four years 2002 to 2006 by DEFRA from the Waste Minimisation and Recycling Fund for England. In March 2004 WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) also agreed to contribute £2.588 million to help fund communications and awareness recycling campaigns in London. Since April 2002 the Fund, which aims to lever additional funds into projects, has awarded grants to over 130 different recycling projects run by the London boroughs and waste authorities, which together with the matched funding represents a total investment in new recycling infrastructure and arrangements with a total value of over £100 million.

The CRED Programme, managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT) and nine consortium partners, distributes National Lottery money on behalf of the Big Lottery Fund under its Transforming Waste funding programme.

Launched in January 2003, the CRED Programme aims to guarantee that £36.5 million of Lottery funding, available for local recycling, reuse and composting, is delivered to meet the needs of disadvantaged communities in England, to improve their quality of life and achieve sustainable management of resources.
