Local
Groups
WEN
has a network of more than 40 groups and contacts around
the UK. These groups, networks and members are vital to
our campaigning. They can develop campaigns, start new ones,
take action on local issues and spread WEN ideas and ways
of working. For members, they provide a safe and supportive
space to meet and socialise with others who care about the
environment and health.
Through their contacts
with local media, health services, industries and retailers,
and their communities local groups have the kind of influence, of which we at national WEN office
can only dream.
Such
groups are essential to WEN in our aim of reaching women who
may not consider themselves to be politically motivated or
powerful. The groups share WEN's aims and are encouraged
to support national campaigns, but are, however, autonomous.
They determine their own activities, using the skills and
abilities of their members, and are legally and financially
separate from national WEN. The national office provides support
and information to the groups and staff can run/organise workshops,
speak to groups or attend public meetings.
