Local Groups Support Assistant
Hours:
minimum seven hours a week, to be agreed

WEN Head Office, 4 Pinchin Street, London E1 1SA.
Accountable
to: London Groups Officer
Job
summary: To consolidate and support local groups and strengthen
the WEN groups’ network, so that they can play an active part in
WEN campaigns and take action on other environmental and health issues
of local concern.
Key
tasks
- Deal
with correspondence from groups and potential group members.
- Co-ordinate
and provide information and support for WEN’s local groups and
contacts.
- Maintain
and update records of local groups and contacts, including a publishable
contact list.
- Finalise
and distribute the local groups constitution/agreement (insurance, bank
accounts, communication, affiliate, etc.)
- Ensure
groups have adequate supplies of membership leaflets and other WEN publications.
- Encourage
and support local groups’ involvement in WEN’s campaigns
and promotion of WEN in their area, including increasing WEN membership.
Other
Tasks in collaboration with London Groups Officer/WEN staff
- Gather
news and photos from local groups and write copy for inclusion in WENnews
(quarterly members' newsletter), Women’s Eye (WEN groups email
update) and the website.
- Enable
groups to communicate with and support each other.
- Help run
WEN stalls at events. Ask and encourage WEN groups to run WEN stalls
in their area.
- Set up
a system for the sale of WEN merchandise to and by groups, that benefits
both WEN and the group.
- Ensure
all campaign teams consider local group involvement in their workplan.
- Occasionally
visit WEN’s local groups and local meetings.
General
duties
- Participate
in WEN’s organisational and structural procedures including office
and Board meetings.
- Carry
out all tasks in accordance with WEN’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Deal
with enquiries to the WEN office, including enquiries from women on
personal and health matters.
- Assist
with general tasks at WEN as necessary.
Person
Specification
Because a large part of the work will be with female volunteers including
participants and will involve discussing and dealing with enquiries about
women’s health issues in connection with the environment, it is
essential that the post holder is a woman. Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex
Discrimination Act 1975 applies.
Experience
and Knowledge
- Experience
of project or campaign work.
- Experience
of working with community groups and/or the voluntary sector and volunteers.
- Some experience
of writing material for publication.
- Some knowledge
of the links between environment and health.
