Job
summary:
- Carry
out grant and statutory fundraising for WEN Trust.
- Develop
an understanding of current WEN financial and fundraising matters.
- Advise
staff and assist them in submitting applications and reports.
- Ensure
funding is in line with WEN aims, policies and strategic priorities.
- Maintain
and develop the fundraising strategy and plan.
Key
tasks
- Identify
funding opportunities especially from the EU and the UK Government,
and prepare proposals and applications in line with these, in conjunction
with staff and partner organisations.
- Keep records
of grant applications and fundraising plan up to date.
- Assist
staff in reporting to funders.
- Collate
relevant information and ensure that high quality suitable funding approaches
are made within donor’s deadlines.
- Advise
on capitalising on other opportunities for funding for WEN’s activities,
e.g. donations, legacies, memberships and affiliates, events etc.
- Make other
grant applications as they arise.
- Identify
opportunities to raise unrestricted funds from WEN campaigns and activities
in line with WEN’s Corporate Sponsorship Policy and make approaches
in collaboration with co-ordinators.
- Liaise
with the finance department to ensure that all grants and ongoing annual
awards are received and acknowledged.
- Deal with
correspondence on fundraising matters.
- Monitor
and evaluate the outcome of fundraising activities.
General
obligations:
- Carry
out all tasks in accordance with WEN’s policies and practices
including Equal Opportunities and Green Housekeeping.
- Actively
participate in WEN’s organisational and structural procedures
including staff and Board meetings.
- Contribute
to WEN’s core activities and share in general duties such as answering
phones, taking messages and carrying out basic office tasks.
- Deal with
correspondence, general enquiries and information requests, including
enquiries from women on personal and health matters.
Duration:
This is a temporary contract for six months, with possibility of extending
the contract and increasing hours as funding allows.
Exclusions
Because this post is expected to contribute equally to the running of
the WEN office, which may involve dealing with enquiries from women on
personal and health matters it is essential that the post holder is a
woman. Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 applies.
Person
specification
Experience
and knowledge:
- Significant
experience of fundraising for charity or voluntary organisation(s),
with a proven record of success in raising funds.
- Experience
of working/volunteering with women’s groups or organisations.
- Computer
literate with good skills in Word, Excel, e-mail and databases.
- Excellent
time management skills, able to work under own initiative.
- Excellent
communication skills.
- Knowledge
of the legal framework within which charities work, e.g. charity law,
data protection.
- Some knowledge/experience
of environmental issues and sector.
Skills
and abilities:
- Able to
absorb new information quickly.
- Able to
deal sensitively and appropriately with enquiries from women on personal
or health matters.
- Able to
work with regard to WEN’s equal opportunities policy.
- Committed
to WEN’s aims and objectives and interested in its activities.
Desirable:
- Wider
experience of fundraising beyond grant and statutory: WEN aims to move
towards more untied funding.
