Reusable Sanpro - What do women really want!

WEN has always campaigned to promote sustainable, waste minimising and financially viable consumer options for women and our choice of 'Menstrual Lingerie' is no exception!

Women's Hour on Radio 4 this week covered an issue close to the hearts and minds of many women including women at WEN. That is, our choice of menstrual wear.

Together with Nature's Alternatives, a company which makes and sells reusable menstrual pads and a company which sells The Keeper, which is an alternative to tampons in the form of a rubber cup, we highlighted the issues surrounding the lack of information for women to make a choice about what they use each month.

Judging by the numerous responses we have had from women, the need for these products to be available and promoted so that they can make an informed choice is currently not an option most retailers are exploring.

As women, we have little say in what products are marketed to collect our menstrual blood and no information as to what health effects these might have on our bodies. Sanitary protection companies sell their producst by feeding and enforcing the taboos surrounding menstruation in society so words like 'discretion' and 'hygiene' are used instead of 'celebration', 'blood' and 'period'.

The major sanitary protection companies refused to contribute to the program giving us all the more reason to wonder what they have to hide?

WEN has more recently asked the question about the possible health effects of Genetically Modified Cotton used in tampons, see below, we are still waiting for the answer!

We would like to congratulate Women's Hour for a very positive and re-affirming piece of radio.
