British Gas gaffe

AAAAARGH!!! Why do grown up organisations behave like babies when it comes to talking nappies?

Due to very successful lobbying from the disposable nappy manufacturing giants, government and industry just keep on getting it wrong.

The latest blunder is British Gas's press release 8/10/07 stating that millions of Britons are doing more harm than good as they try to be environmentally friendly, claiming one in five people regularly commit 'green gaffes' because of confusion over issues like recycling and saving energy. They then commit their own 'green gaffe' adding to the confusion by stating that real nappies are no more environmentally-friendly than disposables. What a load of poo!

Real nappies are better for the environment. They save waste and, used properly, create 24% less CO2 than disposables.

Kay Wagland, Real Nappy Project Officer, WEN says, "Even the heavily flawed Environment Agency report proved that parents can use real nappies and save mountains of waste confident in the knowledge that they do not cause any more harm than disposables."

Indeed simply by adopting a sensible washing routine, WEN has shown how parents can save 24% of climate change impacts.
