C's the Day to Stop Cancer C's the Day, 10 am to 4pm, Saturday February 9th 2008,The Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton, BN1 1AF, Free. C's the Day is organised by Green Women in association with Women's Environmental Network (WEN) and Breast Cancer UK to highlight what we can do to prevent the growing threat of cancer. The incidence of cancer has doubled over the last 30 years. Women now have a one in nine risk of contracting breast cancer. Among men, prostrate, lung and colorectal cancers are the largest threat with between a one in 13 and one in 18 risk. "Whilst the Government remains fixated with screening and treatment, real primary prevention goes ignored and cancer rates continue to soar," says WEN's Kate Metcalf. " We need to protect ourselves by reducing our exposure to carcinogenic and hormone-disrupting chemicals." Reverend Anthea Ballam of Green Women says, "Although millions are invested in research, we believe that not enough is done to try to address the issue of deterrence. C's the day is an opportunity for the people of Brighton & Hove to learn about some of the factors that may cause the disease, and see what lifestyle measures can be taken to improve health. It's a day for those who don't want to get it, as much as it is for those who have it, or who have recovered from cancer." Entry is free to this day long event which will provide information from the best possible sources with talks and debates, complementary therapies, stalls and loads of advice. Guest speakers include Caroline Lucas, MEP, Professor Jane Plant, author of Your Life in Your Hands, and Beata Bishop, proponent of the Gerson cancer therapy. A piano recital will be given by Rachel Fryer.
