Firewalkers raise £6k for WEN

In a mammoth feat of fundraising, volunteers raised an enormous £6,000 in November, walking barefoot across 20ft of burning wood embers in support of community food growing projects in East London.

The WEN firewalk was held in the grounds of St Matthias Community Centre on Tuesday 19th November.

The event was supported by ethical clothing company People Tree, as well as local housing associations, and individual volunteers.

Music was provided by gypsy klezma folk duo, Benny & the Cheesegrinders.

The money will go towards the Tower Hamlets Food Growing Network; a local network that aims to improve communication and sharing between food growers, and increase the number of community growing sites in the borough.
