Local Tower Hamlets residents celebrated International Women’s Week on 9th March with a series of workshops on food and food-growing, climate change and creative banner-making. The event, hosted by Zaccheus Project and Women’s Environmental Network highlighted the need to strengthen women’s voices in environmental decision-making.

Research has found that women are disproportionately more affected by climate change, yet due to lack of women in policy-making positions, women are are not fully represented when it comes to making big decisions about climate change mitigation.
The event demonstrated positive practical actions women and families can take around food growing, as well as showcasing what women in the community are already doing to reduce their carbon footprints. There was a tour of the new community garden, seed sowing, and a shared multicultural feast.
