Here is a list of simple ideas that you can do to help yourself and protect the environment.
  • Talk about stress incontinence and break the taboo.

  • Ask for advice - see your GP, local NHS continence service or an independent physiotherapist (see Resources).

  • Take preventative measures e.g. do your pelvic floor exercises (see Wellbeing).

  • Consider using washable products instead of disposables - you could save money and prevent a lot of waste even if you only use them at night or at home (see Products).

  • Don't flush your disposable pads down the toilet. 'Bag it and bin it' and think before you flush.

  • Demand the best products for yourself and the environment.

  • - Some people may be eligible for free continence products and should demand the best.
    - If you or a relative are in residential care, request a choice of reusable products.
    - Tell retailers if your needs are not being met in the high street.
  • Give a copy of this briefing to your GP, continence advisor, midwife, ante-natal or post-natal instructor, care manager.

  • Join Women's Environmental Network.
