This index has been compiled with the generous co-operation of the many organisations involved in real nappy partnerships. WEN would like to thank everyone who participated in its creation. The information published has been provided by the 'partnerships' and there are not yet any national standard methods for information gathering and calculations. Publication here does not imply endorsement by WEN of any particular methodology. If you are actively promoting real nappies in partnership with another organisation and would like your scheme to be included in our index please e-mail nappies@wen.org.uk |

Notes Funding: EB Cambs Ltd, distributors of Landfill Tax grant for the area (until October 2003). This partnership began by two mums writing to real nappy distributors and manufacturers to obtain nappy samples in order to run a show for Real Nappy Week 1999. A community midwife endorsed an application for funding and links with the local NCT branch enabled co-sponsorship of the application. The funding application was successful and gave the Roadshow four years of funding which enabled the purchase of display boards and more nappies as new designs came out. Midwives were contacted and 'nappy shows' were arranged at parentcraft classes. The Roadshow, in partnership with the local NCT group, published leaflets, put on joint displays at events and set up a page on the NCT website. Ethnic minority communities such as the Asian community are visited by the Roadshow. Since the summer of 2003 the new format of parentcraft in Peterborough means that the Roadshow is now invited to Parentcraft and post natal classes at local health centres. Parents/carers are also seen on a one to one basis. Promotion: Leaflets of local real nappy suppliers are published in English and Urdu. People are encouraged to join the local Credit Union where they can borrow on the normal cheap terms to buy nappies. Achievements: Midwives and health visitors now know about the Real Nappy Roadshow and they inform parents/carers. This means more people are now aware of the choices available. Responses to questionnaires indicate a slight shift to considering using washable nappies. Waste prevention: A waste audit promised by the local council three years ago has not yet been published. The partnership has been involved in a Waste Reduction Forum consulting exercise, concerning future developments for the area. A fuel efficient vehicle is used for displays outside the hospital and promotional runs during Real Nappy Week. |
