Real Nappy Schemes -
Promoting Waste Prevention Through Partnership

This index has been compiled with the generous co-operation of the many organisations involved in real nappy partnerships. WEN would like to thank everyone who participated in its creation. The information published has been provided by the 'partnerships' and there are not yet any national standard methods for information gathering and calculations. Publication here does not imply endorsement by WEN of any particular methodology.

If you are actively promoting real nappies in partnership with another organisation and would like your scheme to be included in our index please e-mail nappies@wen.org.uk

Environ

Notes

Sources of funding:
Environ and borough councils of Leicestershire. Environ have provided funding for nappy demonstrations within the Leicester City area. Some of the other borough councils within Leicestershire have provided funding for leaflet distribution and nappy demo kits within their borough.

Aims: To promote real nappies for environmental reasons and encourage real nappies as a viable option for making cash savings for mothers in most deprived Leicester wards.

Scheme:
With NRF money from Environ, training is delivered in these deprived wards which includes nappy demonstrations to mother and toddler groups, childcare bodies, healthcare professionals, nurseries and other interested groups.

This is a relatively new partnership so it is in the process of publishing promotional materials and applying for more funding.

Environ is an environmental charity promoting all environmental issues & encouraging positive action from individuals -
"converting mums to using real nappies helps us to meet our aims. We are also able to reach funding targets with the
demonstration events organised"'. Environ operates an EMS which works along the lines of ISO14001 to ensure its
environmental impact is as low as possible.

Future plans: more demonstrations, increase markets for locally produced nappies and other products, employ at least one member of staff full-time.
