Promoting Waste Prevention Through Partnership

This index has been compiled with the generous co-operation of the many organisations involved in real nappy partnerships. WEN would like to thank everyone who participated in its creation. The information published has been provided by the 'partnerships' and there are not yet any national standard methods for information gathering and calculations. Publication here does not imply endorsement by WEN of any particular methodology.

If you are actively promoting real nappies in partnership with another organisation and would like your scheme to be included in our index please e-mail nappies@wen.org.uk

Notes
Scheme:
The company was set up as a not for profit one in 1996 to promote the return of cotton by the introduction of a nappy delivery, collection and laundry service.
The aim is to cater to the masses rather than the select few by offering a comprehensive service. Initial trials were successful and demand for the service was high. Endorsements were sought from health professionals and care providers who showed a keen interest in the service. The system is run as a cooperative.

The service includes provision of prefolds, wraps, liners, bin liner, weekly delivery and collection and help and advice.

Weekly service costs £6.00.

Future plans: to provide organic cotton products to our customers. Research is currently underway to produce a new wrap for hospital use. This will eliminate the need to launder wraps during the early days after baby arrives.
