Real Nappy Schemes -
Promoting Waste Prevention Through Partnership

This index has been compiled with the generous co-operation of the many organisations involved in real nappy partnerships. WEN would like to thank everyone who participated in its creation. The information published has been provided by the 'partnerships' and there are not yet any national standard methods for information gathering and calculations. Publication here does not imply endorsement by WEN of any particular methodology.

If you are actively promoting real nappies in partnership with another organisation and would like your scheme to be included in our index please e-mail nappies@wen.org.uk

Notes
Funding:
Eco-Babes funds the laundering and administration costs and makes no profits on the kits. Partners use various funds (Waste Minimisation, Agenda 21) to pay for the cost of the kits, courier and information sheets.

Aims:
To allow parents to see, feel and try out a selection of real nappies for free. It has supported and will support nappy projects with their own goals - waste minimisation, informed choice, etc.

The Kit comes in 5 sizes ranging from new-born to 3 years. There is also a stock of children's nappies available and a stockof adult nappies is in the planning. Eco-Babes is happy to create child (and potentially adult) demo kits upon request.

Eco-babes took on an employee part-time to launder the kits in March 2002. Hopefully two more will be employed for the Huntingdon project and Eco-babes.

Monitoring:
Eco-babes compile weekly reports and the councils involved do yearly appraisals.

Environmental impact:
Eco-Babes use an eco-washer to minimise water consumption and a condenser dryer to draw out water from the nappies which is then used on the garden.
